TARGETED PROGRAM INFORMATION

We have a number of programs on offer at Brisbane Water Secondary College Umina Campus. Every student is placed in the program that best suits their needs and interests, whether that be the Advance Program, the Creative and Performing Arts Program, the Enrichment Program, the Targeted Sport Program, the Strive Program or the Engage Program.

 

Advance Program: The Advance program is guided by the principle that students learn best when they know how to learn, with the aim of equipping students with the skills required to navigate their way to future success.

The Advance Program Points of Difference:

·         Differentiated modes of delivery, with a focus on collaborative learning

·         Explicit teaching of learning skills to support and empower students as lifelong learners

Selection to the ADVANCE Program is gained through a written application and a panel interview. 

 

Creative and Performing Arts Program: The Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) Program, known as Create, is for students who are gifted, or have high potential, in the creative and performing arts domain. There are four disciplines for our Create Program, which are: Art, Dance, Drama and Music.

 

 

The CAPA Program point of Difference:

·         Differentiated lesson content

·         Differentiated modes of delivery

·         Lessons in the student’s chosen CAPA discipline

·         Participation in external showcases

·         Participation in school productions

Selection to the Create Program is gained through a written application and an audition.

 

Enrichment Program: The Enrichment Program is for students who are gifted, or have high potential, in the academic domain.

Points of Difference:

·         Differentiated lesson content in the form of extension and enrichment tasks

·         Differentiated modes of delivery, with a focus on self-directed learning

·         Project Based Learning lessons

Selection to the Enrichment Program is gained through a written application and examinations (English and Mathematics).

Targeted Sport Program: The Targeted Sport Program, known as Activate, is for students who are gifted, or have high potential, in the sporting domain.

The Targeted Sport Program points of difference:

·         Differentiated lesson content

·         Differentiated modes of delivery

·         Targeted skill development lessons

·         Participation in inter-school sport competitions

Selection to the Targeted Sport Program is gained through a written application and a panel interview.

 

Strive Program: This is a program for students who benefit from additional learning assistance.

The Strive Program points of difference:

·         Differentiated lesson content

·         Differentiated modes of delivery

·         Smaller class size

·         Specialised Learning Assistance teachers

·         Student Learning Support Officers in most lessons

Selection for this program is based on primary school recommendation.

 

Engage Program: This program run exclusively at BWSC Umina. It is an initiative centred on the explicit teaching of core skills - including critical reading, writing and higher order number sense.

The Engage Program points of difference:

·         Differentiated lesson content

·         Differentiated modes of delivery

·         Participation in Engage lessons, through which core skills are explicitly taught
