Acknowledgement of Country

The staff and students of Brisbane Water Secondary College acknowledge the Darkinjung people, the Traditional Owners, of the the land on which we proudly stand today.

We say thank you for providing this place of learning and we recognise the abundant natural beauty surrounding both campuses, the mountains, the ocean and the creeks that run through them.

We pay our respects to the Elders, past, present and emerging. It is our emerging leaders - our students - who we look forward to carry our culture into the future, as they celebrate their identity and stand proud in recognition of who they are.

Welcome to our school

Brisbane Water Secondary College Umina Campus is a dynamic comprehensive, coeducational, 7-9 high school.

The college was established in 2002 across two campuses to provide age appropriate teaching and learning environments for all students.

Do you need to meet with the Principal or Deputy Principal?

BWSC Umina Campus Principal Kerrie Thomas and Deputy Principals, Susannah Murray (Yr7), Jessie Heighington (Yr8), Simon Warren (Yr9) and Kathleen Short (Inclusion and Support), welcome the opportunity to meet with parents if and when required.

As you can appreciate our Senior Executive Staff are extremely busy on a day to day basis and this means that it is often not possible for unscheduled meetings to be held.

To ensure the person you wish to meet with is available, at the time that you would like to meet with them and to minimise inconvenience, we recommended that appointments are made in advance, by phoning the school office.

Thank you.

Halloween is a holiday celebrated in the United States each year on October 31, and Halloween 2020 will occur on Saturday, October 31. Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.

Remembrance Day, observed on November 11th, honors and remembers the soldiers who lost their lives in World War I and all subsequent wars. It is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by military personnel in service to their country. In many countries, including Australia, Canada and the UK, people observe a moment of silence at 11:00 AM to mark the armistice signed in 1918, which ended World War I. The day also includes ceremonies, wearing poppies, and paying tribute to veterans.
