GONSKI – Our Children are Worth It!
This week is GONSKI week! What does that mean you might say? Back in 2013 the State and National Governments committed to provide $5 billion of additional funding over six years from 2014. This was based on a review by Gonski that all students should be better supported in schools. 84% of this money will go to public schools just like Brisbane Water Secondary College (BWSC) – Umina Campus.
What has BWSC used the Gonski funding for to assist in the education of your children? Quite a considerable amount!
- A new hothouse on the school's Agriculture farm to allow study of horticulture.
- New synthetic all weather playground for support students to promote active lifestyle all year round.
- Relief and materials for ASPIRE program to help disengaged boys- built bike compound/ gardens, etc.
- Renovated an old farm building to make an Aboriginal Learning Space for young people to engage with culture.
- 30 chrome books for use in the Library to provide equity under BYOD (Bring Your Own Device).
- More School Learning Support Officers in the classroom to support and enhance student learning.
- By the end of 2015 over 90 percent of classrooms will have access to digital projection/ interactive whiteboards.
BWSC – Umina Campus will gain an extra $182,127 of funding change from 2015 to 2016.
These funds will continue to assist all children in NSW and Australia. Please support the Gonski model for better education and resources in the public school system.
